Bridging Classroom and Industry: How an Internship Brought CTeLearning to Life

Steve Waddell • August 4, 2026

At CTeLearning, we are passionate about building curriculum and real-world learning opportunities that empower students to transition seamlessly from high school to high-demand careers. While digital tools, remote collaboration, and modern software enable us to reach classrooms nationwide, nothing replaces the authenticity of capturing real students engaged in hands-on learning.

This past year, CTeLearning had the unique privilege of bringing on Ashley, a graduating senior at Metea Valley High School in Aurora, Illinois, as an intern through our Digital Marketing & Brand Advocacy Internship Project. Working directly inside the classroom of her Business Education teacher, Andrea, Ashley stepped into a vital role as a Digital Marketing Intern. She bridged the gap between our development team and the daily realities of the high school classroom.

As a senior preparing to major in marketing in college this fall, Ashley didn't just participate in a project—she drove it.

High-School Skills, Industry Credentials

At Metea Valley High School, Andrea’s business education students don't just study theoretical concepts; they build functional, professional-grade digital assets. Her classes utilize CTeLearning’s Web Design for Business with Marketing curriculum, a comprehensive program designed to teach coding, site architecture, user experience, and digital marketing strategies side by side.

Through this course, students do more than complete assignments—they earn industry-recognized certifications through
Web Professionals Global. These certifications validate that high school students possess the practical, job-ready skills that modern employers and university programs demand. Experiencing this curriculum firsthand gave Ashley a unique, insider perspective on how technical design and strategic marketing intersect in a real-world workflow. In fact, Andrea’s class had the highest percentage of students who earned certifications through our Learn and Earn model, and the portfolio reviewers remarked on the exceptional quality of their projects.

A Model Classroom for the Nation

Andrea’s classroom stands as an inspiring model for Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs across the country. In an educational landscape where schools strive to connect academic standards with career readiness, her classroom demonstrates what is possible when high expectations meet authentic learning opportunities.

Her students are driven by a clear sense of purpose. Rather than viewing coursework as a series of tasks to complete for a grade, they actively pursue industry credentials through Web Professionals Global and seek out hands-on opportunities like CTeLearning’s internship initiative. By fostering an environment where students are encouraged to take ownership of their professional development, Andrea has built a blueprint for educators nationwide who want to motivate students, bridge the gap between education and industry, and prepare young adults for college and career success.

Mastering the Internship: Strategy, Rights, and Technical Precision

As digital marketing shifts from traditional Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), authentic storytelling and dynamic video content have become the heartbeat of brand engagement. Through CTeLearning’s Digital Marketing & Brand Advocacy Internship Project, Ashley was charged with three primary pillars: content capture, brand stewardship, and dynamic messaging. Rather than simply pointing a camera, Ashley executed a comprehensive, professional-grade production plan from initial pre-production to final asset delivery.

She managed essential legal and technical groundwork by securing signed commercial media releases and parental consent forms to protect brand trust before filming began. On set, Ashley enforced CTeLearning's field protocols. She optimized environmental lighting, performed audio "ear tests" to eliminate background noise, and applied the Rule of Thirds with a natural 15-degree off-axis camera angle.

To get the best out of her peers, Ashley coached interview subjects using an "easing-in" technique and directed them to hold their final expressions so post-production editors had clean cut points. Beyond soundbites, she gathered classroom photography and 30–60 seconds of high-quality B-roll—capturing students actively coding, problem-solving, and using CTeLearning software. Ashley then organized and uploaded the raw footage to shared project folders using strict professional naming conventions, delivering structured media packages that remote teams could rely on.

Powering CTeLearning’s Marketing and Promotional Materials

The media assets Ashley captured didn't sit in an archive—they immediately became a cornerstone of CTeLearning’s national outreach.

Today, the high-resolution photography, raw interview clips, and B-roll Ashley gathered are actively featured across CTeLearning’s official marketing materials, promotional campaigns, social media channels, and website spotlights. Her footage provides prospective school districts, CTE directors, and educators nationwide with an unvarnished, authentic look at active, project-based web design learning in action. By showcasing real students collaborating and earning industry credentials, Ashley’s work helps CTeLearning tell a far more compelling story than traditional marketing collateral ever could.

Recognized Across the Industry

Ashley’s initiative, technical precision, and professional dedication did not go unnoticed. Taking on an internship of this scope requires self-direction, strong communication, and a willingness to step outside standard academic routines.

"The entire CTeLearning team is incredibly proud of students like Ashley who go above and beyond their standard classroom requirements to actively seek out real-world internships,"
said Steve Waddell, Founder and Lead Developer of CTeLearning. "Seeing a student take what she learned in her business courses, apply it directly to a professional project, and prepare herself so thoroughly for her future career is exactly why we do what we do. Ashley demonstrated the kind of drive and workplace readiness that will make her successful in college and in industry."

Preparing the Next Generation of Marketers

As Ashley prepares to head off to college this fall to pursue her degree in marketing, she leaves behind a lasting contribution to CTeLearning. Her experience highlights the exact mission of CTE programs: equipping students with confidence, technical certifications, and real-world experience needed to thrive in post-secondary education and beyond.

We extend our sincere thanks to Ashley for her exceptional dedication and creativity, and to her teacher, Andrea, for cultivating an exemplary classroom environment where innovation, ambition, and student leadership thrive. The entire CTeLearning team wishes Ashley the absolute best as she takes this exciting next step into her marketing career! Check out some photos and videos from Ashley's project below.
